After the floods...
Mon 9 Dec 2013

Back

Like much of the east coast, Wells had extensive flooding from a surge tide on the evening of Thursday 5th December 2013. Our little soap shop on the quayside was right in the firing line but survived remarkably well and was much less damaged than many neighbouring buildings. The flood defences around the town also did their job so unlike the large flood of 1953, our soap factory and our house at the back of town were unaffected.

We were therefore back open for business and sort of running normally by Saturday morning although the shop may look a little strange... all our display units are turned through 90 degrees and propped up so that they can dry out and the carpet is not as smart as it once was. All our stock is fresh and undamaged athough it is now stacked sideways on the shelves and the downlighters are now sidelighters and the price tags are on edge.

Sales from our website are unaffected though recent orders may be a bit delayed (it has been a busy few days). But you can still order with confidence in time for Christmas.

We must say thank you to the Wells flood wardens who did a sterling job and to all who helped us out both before and after, including our landlord, a passing regular customer, our retired Deputy Harbour Master and the builders next door.

If you're in the area, do drop in. There are many homes and businesses in Wells that have been more seriously affected than we have and some visitors to the town and shops will help to cheer things up.

It's Wells Christmas Tide on the quayside next weekend (13th-15th December) and the Christmas Carol Service at the lifeboat house (which has been remarkably cleaned up following extensive damage in the floods) on the 15th. so, as usual for the town, there's plenty of things to see and do.

Pet Soap

Pet Soap, approx 100g

A mild and gentle soap to use on your dog or horse. Made with milk powder for gentleness and neem oil for repelling insects, and scented with Kunzea, tea tree and lemon eucalyptus essential oils. We first made this to help restore outdoorsy-type muddy Norfolk dogs to somewhere near their original colour, texture and smell but our handmade pet soap works equally well on pampered pooches and princess poodles. There's nothing much in there that might upset your pet but please do a little patch test at first just in case.

Not tested on cats because, frankly, we wouldn't dare.
